A lead is an individual or organization that has expressed interest in a company’s product or service and has provided their contact information for follow-up. Leads are the initial point of contact in the sales process and can come from various sources, such as website forms, social media, webinars, or referrals.
Leads vary in their level of interest and readiness to buy, which is why they are often classified as either Marketing Qualified Leads (MQLs) or Sales Qualified Leads (SQLs). Generating and nurturing leads is a critical step in the sales funnel, as it moves potential customers closer to making a purchase.
